I'm back from Europe and have extended my contract another year. So far, this semester has been great. Either their English is getting better or my teaching method is getting better. Life here continues to be interesting, strange, challenging, comfortable, and a bunch of other adjectives.

I'm working on pading my Youtube channel, so if you'd like a glimpse into some of my world, check it out.

This update is brought to you courtesy of my students. Last night we did a screening of final projects and then went out for makali to celebrate. At one point, they told me they had found my website and demanded more updates. "What should I post?" Their response: pictures. Specifically, pictures of them. So here you go, a few of my students:

While I'm posting pictures, here are a few more random ones. The first is my good friend Torsten, who is leaving Korea, waiting for a cab with our friend Lucie. The second is my band (three-sixths of them anyway). And the third is me trying to look badass in my new Roy Batty-ish down jacket:

I leave for a five week trip to Europe tomorrow morning. It starts with the conference in Bochum and ends with a video art festival in Stuttgart. In between, there will be Brussels and Ljubljana and Prague, and likely Bratislava and Strasbourg. Hopefully there will also be time for Krakow.

In September, I gave a guest lecture titled Virtual Aureality: The Aesthetic Power of Ambient Sound in Video Games for the 2007 International Contents Creators Convention in Busan.

Last month, I had a short article published in the academic journal Offscreen titled "Overlapping Levels of the Diegesis in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." The article can be found here. The entire issue, guest edited by Randolph Jordan, is dedicated to film sound and definitely worth a look!

Currently, I'm preparing a presentation for the Visible Evidence XIV conference in Bochum, Germany. I'll be part of a four-person panel titled The Real and the Rendered: Auditory Constructions of the Visibly Evident.

In the meantime, my Korean has expanded to include the words "beautiful," "delicious," "I don't understand," "how much is x," "where is x," "again," "I love you," and "yes, inside the university." But, pathetially, that's about it.

I'm in the home stretch of my first semester teaching sound at KSU in Busan, Korea. It's been an incredibly rewarding experience. The students and faculty are wonderful, I have time to work on some personal projects, and I've even got a pretty damn good social life. The language barrier is a work in progress, but I now know how to tell the taxi driver to turn left and right. Trust me, this is an accomplishment.

Well, what do you know... an actual update. It's been almost a year. I'm moving to Busan, South Korea to take a teaching position at Kyungsung University. I'll be teaching sound studies. I move Feb. 20.

Been very busy, obviously too busy to keep up the updates on this section. I have, on the other hand, overhauled the Sound & Image section, which now has a few Quicktime clips up. Finished MA degree at SFSU. Now teaching at the university. Working on projects for Current TV and Digitrove, and keeping on with the magazine writing. Enjoying the occasional cask ale at Magnolia.

A KTEH special on Vienna Teng aired today. I recorded the live audio of the concert at Freight & Salvage. I have apparently been credited with "sound" for the broadcast, although I didn't mix it. I don't know how good the sound actually is because I haven't seen it yet. It airs again Aug. 18 at 11 a.m. and Aug. 21 at 10 p.m. I'll be sure to catch one of the two.

Playing a show with Vienna Teng at the Independent in San Francisco on Friday, Aug. 27. It promises to be very rawk since it will be me, Vienna, John Given on guitar, and Avey Gonzales on bass. No string section this time. Special guests and all-around cool kids The Animators will open and also float on and off stage to joinn us on various VT numbers. I'll be playing a new hybrid acoustic/electronic drumkit I've been conceptualizing in my mind over the past year or so. I'm also designing it for a new magazine article, so rather than scoop myself, I'll keep the details to a minimum until it's published. But you can see and hear it in all it's tweak-head glory by coming to the show.

Just completed editing a documentary trailer on children with ADD and the controversy over prescription medication. It has been submitted to ITVS in hopes of getting funding for a full documentary.

I've joined the band Savoir Faire. The band plays private parties and weddings as part of San Francisco Events. So you'll never see me play unless you hire us to come do a private show in your living room.

Website re-design. Old updates should probably be archived, but I'm being lazy and a find the thought of it profoundly unimportant, so we're starting over fresh.
